2011 Top Ten Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults
I can’t last much longer. It’s been one week, three days, and I forget how many hours.
My belly cramps, and I curl on my bed, staring out at the stars. A delicious breeze glides through my window and cools my sweaty forehead. The air smells of summer–mowed grass, recent rain, lingering barbecue–and tempts me more than I want to admit. Shards of moonlight and shadow shift on the wall. I clench my teeth and toes and try to ride out the pain. My bedroom drifts counterclockwise, and I shut my eyes.
It can’t be good for me, not shapeshifting.
Seventeen-year-old Gwen hides a dangerous secret: she’s Other. Half-pooka, to be exact, thanks to the father she never met. Most Americans don’t exactly roll out the welcome mat for Others, especially not the small-town folks of Klikamuks, Washington. As if this isn’t bad enough, Gwen’s on the brink of revealing her true identity to her long-time boyfriend, Zack, but she’s scared he’ll lump her with the likes of bloodthirsty vampires and feral werewolves.
When a pack of werewolves chooses the national forest behind Gwen’s home as their new territory, the tensions in Klikamuks escalate–into murder. It soon becomes clear a serial killer is methodically slaying Others. The police turn a blind eye, leaving Gwen to find the killer before the killer finds her. As she hunts for clues, she uncovers more Others living nearby than she ever expected. Like Tavian, a sexy Japanese fox-spirit who rivals Zack and challenges her to embrace her Otherness. Gwen must struggle with her own conflicted identity, learn who she can trust, and–most importantly–stay alive.
“This who-done-it is an unusual blend of mystery and fantasy, starring original characters not often featured in modern urban fantasy for teens. I really enjoyed it.” — Annette Curtis Klause, author of Blood and Chocolate
“Other has it all: love, shifters, pookas, and nail-biting action. What’s even better, Kincy’s characters are vibrant, real and lovable. This is a debut that leaves you aching for more.” — Carrie Jones, New York Times bestselling author of Need and Captivate
Available at IndieBound, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Flux.

Book #2, (Flux, September 8, 2011)
The moon rises like a rotten silver fruit, oozing juice onto the land. A shiver scuttles down my arms. A wind blows my way, filling my nose with the scent of arriving rain, lichen, leaves… and the faint, wild, musky smell of wolf. I clench my toes inside my shoes, tense but unsure where to go or what to do.
A hoarse whisper, close to my ear. “You know you don’t belong here.”
My head snaps to the right, and I’m staring into the dark eyes of him, Randall, the werewolf. A fist clenches my guts. Words choke my throat. You want to fight? You here to kill me?
Brock Koeman lost his brother to werewolves. Now he’s in danger of losing himself. Bitten by a werewolf at sixteen, he fights the transformation, taking the excruciating pain as a punishment for his mistakes. With the help of a risky drug called Lycanthrox, he’s managed to stay human for two full moons. But he knows he can’t last much longer.
Hungry for revenge, Brock vows to kill the silver wolf who bit him. But Brock’s ex, the fiery Cynthia Lopez, still cares about him enough not to let him do anything suicidally dangerous—never mind that Cyn gets her thrills from danger herself. Together again, the heat between them rekindles, but Brock feels like a beast beside her beauty. He can’t stay with her; he can’t ignore the werewolves howling outside his window. When he hunts down the pack, Cyn doesn’t sit on the sidelines. She’s right beside him as they get taken hostage and start running with the werewolves, the police hot on their tails. Brock has to get a grip on who he truly is—before the wolf within kills him, or someone else does.
“With Bloodborn, Karen Kincy opens a frightening new chapter in the werewolf legacy. Brilliant, dark, and filled with haunting images. Highly recommended.” — Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of Rot & Ruin and King of Plagues
Available for preorder at IndieBound, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Flux.

I just bought other yesterday I cant put it down can't wait for the next one!
Hope you enjoy Bloodborn when it comes out!
why is the series changing to completely different characters in different places usually its the same characters but new stuff not just the same general subject it doesn't make sense!!!!! i loved other and the characters and its plot you should stick with it!!!!! when you have all the books different it becomes a bunch of different novels not a series you gotta fix it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to me these plot lines are about the same as Star wars and star trek or harry potter and lord of the rings or even twilight and the vampire diaries!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the late reply, Rose, but to answer your question, the series isn’t changing to completely different characters. Each of the books has a different protagonist, yes, but many of the characters from OTHER return to BLOODBORN and FOXFIRE. (You might be able to guess which character FOXFIRE is about.) Hope this helps!
Rose, you should really give them all a chance before getting all huffy! Did you think that they may all tie in at some point because all these other worldly powers may be connected some way. Only 3 books planned so far it looks like and the last 2 haven’t even come out yet. Man people just hating everywhere for any reason they don’t like. Way to go Karen this book is awesome so far. I read a lot of Supernatural stuff and this is definitley fun. original, dramatic and just plain entertaining!!!!!!! You go girl!
Thank you!

So in bloodborn it is nothing about Gwen or is there a little bit about her???? Dose that mean it will be from Brocks point of view???
Yes, Bloodborn is from Brock’s POV. Gwen shows up again in Foxfire, the third book, which comes out next year.

Catie, thanks so much! I’d love it if my books were made into movies. We’ll have to wait and see if a film production company agrees.
P.S. Hope you enjoy Bloodborn, and Foxfire when it comes out!
i cant waite untill your 3 book come out
Foxfire comes out September 2012, so not *too* much longer now!
I’m just going to dive right into it… You’re a fantastic author! Last year, I picked up your book “Other” by pure luck on a Border’s trip (may it rest in peace) when I bought “Dracula” by Bram Stoker. I plowed through it in about a day and it left me yearning to read more! I was a bit disheartened to find out I had to wait a year to read another one of your novels, but it was well worth the wait! It’s a breath of fresh air to the young adult fantasy/supernatural genre. This next year is going to test my patience, but I’ve learned that it will pay off. I hope things are going well for you and keep up the great work!
Thank you for the sweet comment, Olivia! And Bloodborn actually came out already, on September 8, though you do have to wait a bit longer for Foxfire (Fall 2012). Can’t wait to hear what you think of them!
good book other
Thanks.
When does Foxfire come out!?
Foxfire comes out Fall 2012!
Wow, I’m going to have to go look for this series – nice teaser!
