Exhibit A: I have bookmarks. Aren’t they pretty?

I know it’s hard to believe. But yes, Other debuts in only TEN DAYS. This morning, I felt obliged to create a whiz-bang contest of sorts. My eyes roved around the room… and settled upon my shiny Other bookmarks. They looked sad without a book to nestle in. And believe it or not, I don’t have enough books to put them all in. Nor do I have the selfishness to keep them all to myself, as shiny as they may be. Hence, I’m announcing a CONTEST.

This one’s easy. Since there are 10 days left before Other debuts, I’m giving away 10 signed bookmarks to 10 winners. Are you on the fence? I’m going to include a handwritten letter with each bookmark, and in each letter will be a unique teaser from Other or Bloodborn.

How to enter? You have to be someone in the US who hasn’t read Other yet. Comment here with your best guess as to the wildest/craziest/best thing that might happen in Other. I will randomly choose 10 winners from the comments. This is why those who have already read the book need not enter. Don’t worry, though. I’m going to be running another, bigger contest after Other hits the shelves, for everybody who’s read the book already. Expect more pooka -ish prizes!

This contest ends July 1, when Other debuts. Good luck!

With the help of random.org, I picked 10 lucky winners for signed Other bookmarks. Note: these were chosen from the comments both at karenkincy.com and karenkincy.livejournal.com. And now! THE WINNERS

(drumroll)

Lucy, who said, “Like Erica, I’d have to say the fey. I’m to faeries, but I’ve read some books on them and they are completely amazing. They rockz my world x)”

Alicia, who said, “I’d say mine is sirens. I find them to be very cool.”

Yvonne, who said, “I gotta say vampires all the way, been a fan for years.”

Jessica, who said, “My favorite creature is currently werecats because I’m a HUGE fan of Rachel Vincent’s Shifter series. I’m currently reading her new release, Shift, and it’s amazing. She’s a truly wonderful writer.”

Ka-Yam, who said, “My absolutely fav magical creatures are the dragons. I’ve liked them since I were little. When I was 5 I owned a huge dragon with 3 heads which got burned by a terrible accident.  Plus dragon is my Chinese zodiac.”

Lisa Richards, who said, “Elves are my favorite closely followed by faeries.(although the idea of a werepuppy is intriguing) Vampires and werewolves will continue to be my favorite characters to find in a book, however.”

Casey, who said, “My favorite magical creature has always been a fairy! I just love everything about them! My next favorite would have to be mermaids, probably because I love swimming and they live underwater.”

Heather (aka edgyauthor), who said, “My current favorite magical creature–because it always changes!–is harpies. I love writing about their unapologetic viciousness!”

Kimberly Little, who said, “Favorite magical creatures are mermaids. When I was a kid, every time I went swimming with my best friend, we’d cross our feet to simulate a fin and watch our long hair float by on the *current*.”

Mindi, who said, “Favorite magical creature… wow, I’ve never sat down and picked a favorite before. I like all magical creatures a lot. I guess my favorite would be fairies, because they can be represented in so many different ways – dark and unpredictable, or perfect and idealized, or tiny and brainless like Tinkerbell.”

I will be emailing all the winners shortly. Thanks to everybody who entered, and stay tuned for even more fantabulous contests in the future!
